Nokia X10 and X20 announced: 5G support and 3 years of software updates and warranty

The Nokia X has been associated with a variety of phones in the past. Multimedia, Microsoft-backed Android phones, then HMD-made Android for China, and now it's all about sustainable 5G smartphones.

The new series works with nine models, the Nokia X10 and the X20 with two models. HMD promises three years of full support - that means three years of OS and security updates, but also a three-year warranty. As part of HMD's green initiative, the phones come with a case that is 100% compostable.

These two phones are almost identical, mainly different in the camera section. So, first focus on the general features.

Both the Nokia X10 and X20 are powered by Snapdragon 480 5G chipset. It's a GPU like the S750G, so the chip actually throws up a lot more than its 400 Series branding.

The X20 comes in a wide range of memory configurations, 6 / 128GB and 8 / 128GB. The X10 also has the option of 6 / 128GB, plus two more. 6 / 64GB and 4 / 128GB. You may want to get more RAM than storage as both models can be equipped with a microSD card up to 512GB (but note that this is a hybrid dual SIM slot).

Both Xphone phones have 6.67 "LCDs with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 px. They have average brightness (450 nits) and color coverage (82% NTSC) and any choice Lacks such as high refresh rate or even stronger glass. At least you get a screen protector with retail package.

The camera section is the highlight of the Nokia X20. It has a 64MP main camera on the back. The S480 chip is at the forefront of 1080p video capture, so don't expect anything more from this camera.

Next is the 5MP ultra wide angle camera. The dual-site feature lets you record photos and videos using two cameras at the same time. View Finder can be configured as an image in a split screen or image. All kinds of combos are possible, e.g. Important + ultra wide camera or even front + macro. The last two modules in the back are a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera with its 32MP sensor (and a fixed focus lens) is another highlight.

Nokia X10 loses some ground here. Its main camera is based on a 48MP sensor, although it still receives ZEISS treatment. The other three campuses are the same at the back, including the Ultrawood 5MP. The selfie camera has been lowered under the 8MP sensor.

In terms of connectivity, both phones offer 5G, of course (dual SIM), plus Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 with Optics HD / Adaptive and NFC. The wired connection includes a USB-C (USB 2.0) as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack, complete with an FM radio receiver.

Both phones use the same 4,470mAh battery, which comes with HMD's standard promise of two days of battery life. They both support 18W for charging. In some areas the X20 will get a charger in its retail package, the X10 will always come with a USB-C cable only.

Here are some final details. Both of these handsets will soon launch stock Android 11 out of the box and you won't have to worry about an update anytime soon. They have a fingerprint reader and Google Assistant buttons around them. The X10 has basic water resistance (IP52, meaning you can remove it in the rain).
