Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)

Inter-Services Intelligence (also known as ISI) is Pakistan's largest intelligence agency, practically responsible for collecting, processing and analyzing national security information from around the world. . As a key member of the Pakistani intelligence community, the ISI has informed its Director General and is primarily focused on providing intelligence to the Government of Pakistan.

The ISI is primarily a service of military officers formed on the second of three service branches of the Pakistan Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force), hence the name "Inter Services". However, the agency also recruits many citizens. Since 1971, the ISI has been formally headed by a three-star general in the Pakistan Army, appointed by the Prime Minister on the recommendation of the Army Chief, who recommends three officers for the post.  By 2021, ISI is currently headed by Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, who was appointed its Director General on June 17, 2019. The Director General of ISI informs both the Prime Minister and the Army Chief directly.

The agency gained international recognition in the 1980s when it supported the Afghan Mujahideen against the Soviet Union during the Soviet-Afghan war in the former Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. During the war, ISI worked closely with the US Central Intelligence Agency and the British Secret Intelligence Service, training and financing Mujahideen in Operation Cyclone China, Israel, Saudi Arabia and other Muslim nations to run a support program.

ISI is an excellent organization that plays an important role in bringing peace to Pakistan. He has always made the best plans to face the aggression of India. It has the biggest role to play in maintaining peace throughout South Asia.

Its tasks include enforcing the country's constitution throughout the country, curbing sectarianism, working for government protection, and working with the military in emergencies in the country.

There is no doubt that the ISI is playing a key role in every peace effort.
