ISLAMABAD: The third wave of corona virus is sounding alarm bells for Pakistan as 4,767 new cases of the virus were reported across the country in a single day on Sunday.
Sixty-five more people died of the virus on Saturday, while 4,767 more contracted the disease, according to figures from the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC).
A total of 45,656 people were infected in Pakistan on Saturday. The positive ratio in the country has risen to 10.4.
Several areas of the country have taken precautionary measures as the third wave of the virus persists in the country. Schools are closed in Punjab, KP and some other cities till April 11 following the government's efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
Coronavirus cases in Pakistan hit eight-month high as 3rd wave intensifies
On Friday, corona virus cases across the country reached an eight-month high when Pakistan reported more than 4,000 cases of the virus for the first time since July 3, 2020.
The last time more than 4,000 cases were reported in Pakistan was on July 3, when 4,087 people were diagnosed with the virus.
A day earlier, Asad Omar, head of the NCOC and federal minister, had warned of tough decisions if the coronavirus situation did not improve.
During a media briefing after a key meeting of the NCOC on Saturday to review the alarming rise in coronavirus cases in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad Capital Territory, the federal minister had said that the deteriorating coronavirus situation Due to that, the sanctions were lifted two weeks ago.
He had said that the epidemic was spreading rapidly not only in Pakistan but all over the world, especially in neighboring countries like India and Bangladesh.
